Although most of the roster for the Four Nations Tournament spent last September in China at the FIFA Women's World Cup, there are six young players here for the first time. After a short, but intense camp at the Home Depot Center just south of LA, the Women's National Team heads to their first series of games under new coach Pia Sundhage.
As they get ready to board the plane, forward Heather O'Reilly sent us the following:
After a brief weight training session today with Helena, our new fitness trainer, we had the rest of the day off to take care of some last minute pre-China errands. For some people this meant buying snacks for the trip, running over to Barnes and Noble for some new reading material, or just getting in touch with friends or family before the 2 week trip. Everyone is on their own, taking care of what they need to do!
But we regroup just in time to make it over to the airport for our red-eye flight to Guangzhou. This trip over shouldn't be too bad because it coincides with our sleep schedule. We will be able to sleep on the flight, and when we get in, it is 6:00 am in China. The sooner we can acclimate the better, and the less cranky people are!
We are looking forward to our first trip of 2008, and having our first matches with our new coaching staff.
The girls' first game is one week from today, needless to say, we will all be watching!
