Separation Anxiety

At 32,000 feet, more or less, the reality of spending the next 3 ½ weeks in China is finally beginning to sink in. My preparation, while directed at the Women’s World Cup has been mostly working in my office. E-mail, Fax, Meetings, lots more e-mail and even more meetings. But now the trip is underway and although I will not arrive in Chengdu until Sunday afternoon, my excitement is building.

At 6:00 AM this morning I dropped off Skyler and Wrigley and came home to a very quiet house. Life with Wrigley, a four-month old Golden Retriever, is rarely quiet. He has two speeds, fast and nap, but the ever-maternal nine year old Skyler is always in control as the Queen of the house.

Wrigley (my father was a life-long Cubs fan) and Skyler are with good friends Joanna and Bob, and will no doubt have their own visitors while I am away. Anyone who knows Goldens will understand that they have their own set of friends.

Indeed there was some separation anxiety, but I am sure I will be fine!

Posting this from Tokyo’s Narita Airport I feel surprisingly rested and ready to go. Next stop Shanghai!

Hi Paul!

I'm already hooked on your blogs. I like reading about your adventures and you make me feel like we're friends already. You're dogs are awesome! They are beautiful. I'm sure they're missing you but having fun too so don't worry.

I'm looking forward to hearing about Shanghai; food, people, architecture, music everything!

To remind you of home, It's a beautiful fall day with a high of 75 degrees. I'm going for a bike ride around the lakes.

Your new friend,

Pam
